Thanks Jo! Seems like an interesting coterie? Came across it almost inadvertently via Tiffany Markman.

Hi Jo,

I have tried both Chrome and IE7.

The error message is;

"This webpage is not available.

The webpage at http://www.freelancentral.co.za/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address."

Where do you host your website? It looks as if it is pointing to something on Ning. I also typed your address in to the browser and get the same result.

Hope that helps.

Ha ha, thanks Jo! :) I'm really looking forward to learning more about the elevator pitch from you at the conference. I'll be refining mine in the meantime though.

Hi Jo,
CREDIPOWER is nearly ready to launch.
Please urgently let me know how I can promo it through your freelancecentral site - and what costs.
Thanx JRB §;0)

Hi Jo,
I doubt if you have had time to look at my book yet. But when you do, please let me know if I can promo it on your other website - and how much and in what format/size etc.
Will be meeting with CrediPOWER on Friday hopefully and that will be up and running with the month.
All my money/effort is going into it at present. Good buddies? JRB §;0)

Me again,
Sounds great — Not the whistle part - but giving a couple of books away at the party. I'm down to talk on copyright and patents, or at least to get the ball rolling.
Took a squizz at your other site and was duly impressed. We will definitely talk.

Hi jo,
I see you are a big whistle on this website and am impressed.
I also see you have another website for freelancers.
Getting to the point directly, you may have seen I have published a book on just this subject (see FlyingSolo main page) and wonder if we could cut a deal to get it out where it is needed.
Also I see you have a book in mind - Perhaps I could give you some tips? JRB §;0)

Profile Information

What service do you offer?
My passion is to help freelancers do what they do well. So I started www.freelancentral.co.za, South Africa's popular online directory of freelancers in the creative industries and we now have over 3,000 freelancers listed with us. Freelancentral not only provides a platform for you to promote your portfolio online in a centralised place but we also take care of marketing the site (including generating traffic to it) so that clients can find you easily.

Freelancentral also offers an advice line and portfolio critique service free of charge to our portfolio members. We have also started running half day workshops on a variety of topics including Client Insights, Common Copy Mistakes, Marketing Yourself Effectively and Affordably, and more. We also run get-togethers (informal networking evenings at a bar or gallery) every 6 months in JHB and CT.

And we're the co-organisers of the Flying Solo Unconferences - which I love being involved in as I can actually meet freelancers face to face for once!

For clients/companies, I help them to outsource their marketing function quickly, easily, effectively and affordably.

On top of all this, I am a freelance writer and editor myself (background is over a decade in the advertising world), working with a range of local and international clients. I also have a regular column on ITWeb and write for several international freelancing websites. I have a book up my sleeve, but more about that later... I love the energy and possibility of being a soloist - and watching sparks fly (in a good way!) when connections are made.
Where are you? (What Town/City/Place)
I'm based in tbe beautiful hamlet of Scarborough, about 50km from the Cape Town city centre.
What can this network do for you?
Networking is always great and the possibilities and collaborations inspire me.
I'm also looking to gain an understanding of what freelancers need so that I can improve the services that Freelancentral offers to them.
What can you offer this network?
A lot of freelancing experience and advice: I've been at it off and on for around 10 years, plus manage a database of over 3,000 freelancers and speak to freelancers about their challenges on a daily basis.

Calling all start-up ICT Entrepreneurs - free programme run by CITI

Hi everyone

For those of you in Cape Town, if you were at the CT Flying Solo event you might remember Alan from PeerPower talking about the various programmes that the Cape IT Initiative runs. One is VeloCITI, which my company, Freelancentral, plus Rafiq and Jamaal were on in 2007.

CITI's newsletter yesterday includes a call for applications for the next VeloCITI programme:

VELOCITI is aimed at young IT entrepreneurs who are running a business where the true potential is yet to be fully explo… Continue
